Fate

He took a step that wasn't there
Fell crashing down through cold clear air
Saw his life flash past his eyes
Relived the lows relived the highs
Regretted acts he'd left undone
Chances to take now long gone
Experienced beauty as with every breath
He felt more the hand of approaching death
Heard the birdsong fill the sky
As good a day as any to die
Sent his loved ones thoughts not quite too late
The settled back and accepted fate
The world carried on and on
Yet unaware that he was gone
