 'Inspiration In Thought'

'Lingers Long--Lingers On'

Softly he comes in the night,
He steals my soul, he makes me cry,
My arms reach out--although in vain,
He breaks my heart, he brings me pain.

I lay and weep, the tears slide down
My ashen cheeks without a sound
They gather on the pillow where
He laid his head, without a care.

He's there in dreams that never end,
To guide my hand around the bend
That lingers long, but travels narrow,
A trodden path of tears, and sorrow.

I've walked this path, this endless journey
Until my soul grows weak, and weary,
But still my heart can't turn away,
Or shut the door to sunshine's play.

How did I ever fall so hard
Upon the ground of love's backyard?
The time of fun has gone away
Replaced, with tears that fall all day.

He does not care--how can he know
About the heart that loves him so?
It beats with pain each breath it takes,
But lingers on, each day to wake.

Why won't you go away from me
Leave my heart, and soul in peace
To find it's way, through each new day
Like you have found in yours?

Leave me to mine, though I may pine
Throughout my life that's left,
For what has gone before must stay
Within the time, from whence it came.

~ Another poem from an earlier time, written in 2002.
Heartache, and the onslaught of pain from a marriage
coming apart can be devastating, but from it comes
inspiration in odd forms. Funny, but as I post this
piece I again feel what I did when I wrote it. I guess
emotion captured in word is emotion that is always alive,
somewhere within. ~
