'Fathers'

Fathers come in many sizes,
Always full of sweet surprises
Given free, to me, to you,
With love to last our whole life through.

Love them--while each day you have
Them near your side,
Hold tight their hands, kiss sweet their lips,
Stand tall beside them, full of pride.

Tell them of your heart's intent,
Don't stand aside, nor ere relent,
Be there for them in ways you can,
And tell them they're your favourite man.

Father, is a precious word
Which stands the test of time,
For those of you who still can touch
It means so very, very much--
But for those of you like me who can't
Reach out, and touch the man
Who was always there for you--for me,
With love, with pride, with dignity,
He dwells within our heart,
He lives within our memory.

For still I wake each day to find
He's always there within my mind,
In heart, in soul, he'll always stay
To guide my hand, along the way.

~ I wrote this poem for Father's Day in 2002.
At that time my father had been gone 27 years.
Time has a way of passing, yet that kind of love
is ever lasting. Forever, he is with me. ~
