An innocent man was hung today
Mercy in saving his soul I do pray
That his peace with the Lord was done
For Almighty God is a forgiving One
The only crime was the love in his heart
He could not control it right from the start
Promising his love forever and a day
Was what sent his soul flying away
Forever and a day until the end of time
A promise that proves to be so unkind
It would have been better to forgive and forget
Setting love free to fall into a safety net
Love was not meant to be forever and a day
But to be shared with others along the way
For better or worse till death do us part
This was his promise at the very start
Death sets him free from earthly love
Forever and a day took him to heaven above.
