'Remember'

Time goes on forever, and will never find its end
Though life follows not this same course,
Sometimes it flees like a runaway horse
When the one who's taken is one's mother,
The giver of life who gave you your own.

You stop, you think, you remember
When time seemed like forever,
The smiles she gave, the ground she laid
For you to walk and find your course.

Always to be there, she never once forgot you,
Her tears fell silently when you faltered, and fell,
But never once did she let you fall when you thought all hope was lost.

Her love so true, remained for you, but time cannot diminish this
Though death steals away her form in flesh,
It takes from her the sweet breath you always felt upon you
As she held you close, embraced you tight,
Yet death in all its might, nor in its strongest flight
Can take her soul.

It shines with love its beauty to forever shine upon you,
It stands by you, it comforts you, even though you feel alone
Remember her love, remember her smile,
Remember her hands along the miles
That you traveled, though you stepped alone
She was always there within your soul.

She still remains with you and forever will
For time cannot steal away that,
Your tears may fall as you lay and cry,
But always remember, the soul does not die.

~ This piece spoke directly from my heart.
I wrote it for a life-long friend--one of my very dearest,
after the loss of her mother. I felt my friend's grief,
for her mother was like my own. I will never forget her.
* I recently read this poem during the graveside service of
my own mother, who passed away September 18, 2015. Little
did I know when I wrote it that I would one day read it for
my own mother.

"I will forever miss you, and forever love you. RIP, Momma." * ~
