Musings by The Poet Loriet

Paper Doll

*This was written with my 9 year-old daughter, Morgan~who also has a website and we agreed to put it on both our sites since we wrote it together :-)
Her website is http://www.poetrypoem.com/morgansmusings

Lying one-dimensional
against the page,
I hold my breath
waiting for the tender touch
of a little girl
to free me
from my dotted-line tethers.

I feel naked, vulnerable,
shivering in my bloomers
and lacy white undershirt.

When will a blue-jeaned
girl with pigtails
and syrup-covered fingers
turn me into a princess,
adorn my hair
with fresh flowers,
line my neck and wrists
with glittery jewels?

We can share
best friend forever wishes
conspirationally.

My heart leaps
with yearning
every time
chubby little hands
grab the spine of the book
that I call my home.

Open its pages,
and please--
oh, please...

Let me inside your dreams.
