Poetry For Everyday People

Where Quiet Gardens Bloom

I feel a gentleness
at times,
a peace,
I wish I could
master,

something much higher
than my middle finger
and the guy trying
to run me off the road,

it's homemade soup,
it's Thanksgiving,
it's Christmas,
it's Ramadan,
it's helping
a stranger,
it's a friend
calling when
you're on your last
minute of sanity,
and you end up laughing,

one day
it's a cold beer
at your favorite bar,
the next you're
burying a friend,
the next you're
packing up
what you can't
put into a suitcase,

life's sadness
eats me, and I try
to find that place,

sometimes it comes easy,
a light just falls
over me, snow falls
in June, just for me,

roses
big as love
big as hearts
gentle
in the presence
of a poem.
