 DARKEST    NIGHT

Oh darkest night that draws a tear from heavy heart
Opening the flesh and pouring fear into this wretched place
Where once the calmest river waters bled and forged
But now bristle defiantly to the strains of a winter's fringe

Sleep invaded by the blackest cavern that screams for hope
Figures of those lost walk through my dreaded nightmares
Stalk my thoughts and channel my involuntary movements
Where exhaustion hangs upon me with weights of lead

You are my defender, my lighthouse in an untamed storm
Seething in a wasteland of night that echoes to no man
Bids me warmth in sourness of empty valley
Quenches fires that simmer in fury

You are my conscience
