The Resume
Read briefly was his life's story
No PhD or heroes glory
Three tours, campaigns and secret ops
The death toll seemed would never stop
Jungles would be his home for years
Bases many and missing peers
Filled with fire fights that lit
The night where cries he'd hear I'm hit
Sweat beads and drips across a face
Sitting patient his turn awaits
To sell himself for a position
Unskilled for it some jerks decision
His shoes not shined enough to land
A place once home now no man's land
For one who served earning his keep
In cardboard box tonight he sleeps
Nightmares many he'll have tonight
Fighting to stay alive his plight
Eyesore to those who pass him by
Ignored veteran, slow death he'll die
