 Reflections of My Heart

The Heart Goes On ~ President and Nancy Regan

 The Heart Goes On

 Alone you stand
like a mighty majestic oak
Yet so frail and fragile with out
his arm as your loving cloak

I always wondered
if the public love that was shown
continued when the couple
found themselves alone.

I listened to others as they
let the respect and love outflow
I watched you drift off with your memories
that lay beyond the rainbow

Today as I watched the loving caresses
the evidence was ever so clear
by a devoted heart, enduring strength
and that final good-by kiss and tear.

Mrs. Reagan,
As I witnessed the so painful
final good-by I know that the love
shared will endure beyond eternity
Those gentle caresses and pats
will be felt again and
that the heart does go on.

I pray that you
feel the arms of the world
surrounding you with respect, love
and compassion for your loss and ours.

 As Seen Through My Eyes

I watched most of the TV broadcast of the week
and I had read of the love they shared,
but you know with those in the public eye
you never really know how
much is truth or staged, but I was in
such awe of this woman all week.
I have watched other Presidential
funerals and so much of it is staged
right down to JonJon's salute to, his Dad,
President Kennedy which at the time
broke my heart. But watching Mrs. Reagan
touch his coffin with such tender love
and affection every time it came near her
broke my heart.

Then in Washington, in the
Rotunda, how she stood there and
caressed and patted the top of the coffin
and then laid her cheek on it as you
know she did so many times,
especially after he pretty much lost contact
with the world around him. The strength
she displayed when I have never seen
any one person appear more alone
She kept me in total awe. Then during
the services in Washington while the many
speakers spoke of their experiences with
President Reagan you could watch in
her face that ever so often she would
go to a place of memories only she and
President Reagan could go.
And then her grief over took her
when it came time for her final good by.
She left the role of First Lady and
was solely Mrs. Ronald Reagan
telling her beloved husband goodbye.

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
