Poetry For Everyday People

Paul Newman 1925-2008

Life's dance
can change
fast,
one minute
you got it all,
the next gone,
your mind
holds you hostage,
taking you
for a ride,

it can be
memories
eating at you,
bills, stress,
a dream you had
three days ago
you can't remember,
a smell, a look,
your favorite
movie star dying,

and you're not sure
what's happening,
but something inside
feels bad, a bad
you can't drink away,
a bad, you have to
deal with, face,
go to sleep with,

it's hard most times
to truly know, how we
feel about people
that touched our lives,

love is subtle as air,
we take it for granted
until we hold our breath,

the psychology of living
is such a masterful illusion,

this morning
I learned that
Paul Newman died,

and my
covered up
sadness underneath
my tough guy
is blowing up
some place inside
I just can't reach,

good night
cool blue smile,

you were
nobody's fool.

rack'em up
Jackie Gleason.
