The axeGrand tree, over 200 years old, Dollar green leaves look prosperous and bold, But is a fate knocking right at the door, Is the axe raised to drop it to the floor. Glorious and mighty tree, truly of world renown, Birds from around the globe have arrived and settled down, Outwardly the tree is so rich and lush, Is the axe raised to cut it off flush? Mighty tree, drawing strength from far and wide, Growing mighty while its siblings starve inside, Gorging on resources others cannot afford, Is the axe raised in the hands of the Lord? A sign on the tree this message proclaims, ‘In God I trust', and then dignity profanes, Normalizing what God fully detests, Is the axe raised to topple this nest? Trading in green leaves has become like a sport, Inventing new ways of disguising risks and rorts, Growing rich with little thought or care, Is the axe raised through lack of God fear? Great green tree, bow, bow low on your knees, The king wants repentance, don't you see, Trust not in money or owning much goods, The axe can be stayed if this message is understood. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The tree represents a great nation accomodating migrants from all parts of the world. The rest should now make sense. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
