 Of Tongue And Pen

Poets have written throughout the ages,
Learning what they can from all the sages
Placing in cryptic marks upon the pages
Their views of life and life's meaning.....

The trail to finding useful knowledge
Doesn't lead toward any college
And all its politically correct garbage
Trying to restrain the minds of men

But it is out there in a number of books
The ones the professors give dirty looks,
And the close-minded teacher brooks
No stray thoughts by tongue or pen.....

Dylan, Kipling and Coleridge stand tall
As seekers of knowledge, heeding the call
For things teachers keep hidden behind a wall
Of political correctness running crazily amok.

Reachers for the stars, blazing their own trail
Searching for the magic in the wishing well
Writing deeply as around the world they sail
Or simply take us for a stroll around the block....

Go on to a college, learn everything you can
You needn't climb Everest to prove you're a man
Put your back to the wall and make a stand
Against all of life and its constant adversities

To learn human nature, well, you need the time
To travel the world and experience every clime
To all you college kids, while you're in your prime
Go out and learn life from life's universities......
