I    PRETEND

I pretend I'm asleep as I lay on my side
Your warm breath delights upon my skin
White sheets are cool as the fluttering breeze
Open window allows morn to begin

A day so sweet is very close
As dew awakens on leaf
The birds are happy in glorious song
Wonder beyond belief

You whisper romance, so quiet,
I can hear you smile faint
Soothing tenderness
Of your hand down my spine: no complaint

I pretend I'm asleep as I lay on my side
“I love you” you mutter low
There's no need for me to answer,
You already know
