Oh Aussie magpie your beak is sharp
Harmless though when it is dark-
But when your nesting there's a spark
When you swoop to pick and leave a mark-
Every one that passes by under your tree
You swoop and pick and fly with glee-
They all cover and run to be free
Many times you've swooped on me-
School children and children on bike
It seems to me you really like-
Protecting your nest both day and night
How at that time most have respect and fright-
Oh magpie up in that big gum tree so high
Generation after generation there how you fly-
All protecting nest and young till you die
Proud mothers and fathers one cannot deny-
But one can make a pet of you
By feeding young around home it's true-
You like roasted broken nuts to chew
Many magpies I've had and raised and knew-
Magpie you are dedicated ever so
Other birds respect you as they go-
Even feared by the largest crow
Magpie you I have come to know-
