 DREAD

Desperation crossed my threshold and sat in my favorite chair.
He came in without any warning, I never invited him there.
Consternation filled my being, what was he doing here?
I already had a closetful of woe and a modicum of fear....

Shivers of dreadful doleful thoughts ran up and down my spine,
Even though apprehension was never a friend of mine.
But there he sat and made himself at home upon my chair.
I shook my head thinking I might be dreaming the whole affair....

Please tell me, Desperation, sir, why you came through my door.
I am at a loss you see, I've never had to deal with you before.
Several impertinent invectives came forth to my addled mind,
But I kept them all to myself, you see, I'm simply not that kind....

Desperation said not a word, just smiled an evil looking smile.
There could not have been a viler look within a country mile.
He arose, producing a document, then he nearly hit the floor.
Pardon me my good man but I am supposed to be next door....

Oh joy untold, be still my heart, relief ran through my soul.
Now I was extremely glad I had kept my invectives in control.
My door is now nailed tightly shut and all my windows sealed.
And my blood within my veins no longer flows, it's congealed.....
