Poetry For Everyday People

A Nights Worth Of Distractions

The air
between
me and my soul

is as the air
between me
and my glass
of red wine

(if you're looking
 for me to say:
 my soul and I,
 hold your breath
 for a gold star)

I lay Coltrane down
the record spins
I swirl my wine
my mind in a glass

I reach
for an olive
stir a thought
drown a memory
simmer sense.
