Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

FLATTERY TWO

I didn't meant to ruffle feathers
I once wrote, "To Soar to seek
Embrace the sky! Alas no Wings have I."
Someone said it was plagiarism from a poem
Up above where the Eagles fly
I've read a thousand poems, oh Me oh My
But I never read, "Up above where Eagles fly."
Nah, I was told of copied a poem
verbatim and used it on another site
and the person using their name and
that surely is not right
My friend wrote a poem to his girlfriend
Sang, played the guitar for me and said,
"What do you think Dandy?"
I said today you have to have some Baby Babies
His girlfriends name was Ruth,
He sent her the song, a dozen roses and a Baby Ruth Candy bar.
So we sent it to this outfit that said,
Send your song to us and we will make you famous.
Someone got famous for the song--recognize it?
