I Light These Candles

O Lord we are troubled on every side
yet not distressed; we are perplexed
but not in despair for in thee
we have strength and salvation

~Q~
May these candles
I light for all the broken hearts,
and shine for kindness and love,
to give hope to the families so far apart;
I light these candles
to give strength to the weak,
for the ones so alone with nowhere to start;
~Q~
May these candles
I light show the way for the ones so very sad,
may my candles help to ease the pain
and make a troubled and wary heart glad;
~Q~
May these candles
shine for all families who are in
Grief and painful sorrow
I light these candles for freedom
and give hope for a new tomorrow
~Q~
May these candles
I light show the way for distant lands.
where we and all good people take a stand;
I light these candles for families
that was but now are gone,
where there were two now one stands alone;
~Q~
May these candles
be for courage, and the grace of God to keep.
for bravery, truth and freedom and home.
I light these candles for America
we were hurt; the wound was deep;
May these candles shine
for loved ones from us are gone.
and now with God they sleep,
~Q~
I light these candles for the victims of war
we are sorry but God is there;
May these candles
shine for love and compassion
and comfort for those who weep;
May peace be everywhere
and God's commandments we keep
~Q~
