I dreamed I was A Poet

I Dreamed I was A Poet

I dreamed I was a poet and I put together these words
And they brought about a change everywhere they were heard
They weren't played on loud speakers, no hype or fan fare
But just the same they effected peoples lives everywhere
When the homeboys heard them they put their guns down
Picked up bats and balls then took their sons to the playground
When the young women heard them they took a long look at themselves
They became more respectful of their minds, and their physical health
When the poor people heard it they began to have more hope
And they turned their eyes to God instead of looking to dope
When the rich people heard them they soon came to see
That truly being rich doesn't come from having money
When the preachers heard them, even they made a change
They stopped calling for political aim and returned to calling on Jesus' name
I dreamed I was I poet and the words that I wrote down
Were printed in all languages and circulated around
They went from country to country, and land to land
And they went deep into the hearts of every women and man
To learn about each other they created a worldwide class
And soon terrorism became a thing in the past
When the politicians heard these words they opened their eyes
And established a holiday called the day of compromise
These words gave the homeless shelter, and the cold heat
Food in hungry children's mouths, and shoes on their feet
I dreamed I was a poet and the words that I wrote
Inspired people, educated people, words worthy of a quote
Even rappers and musicians stop in their tracks to hear it
And they then desired to write more conscious lyrics
Why dream to be a poet? Well it just seems to me
There is little else the communicates love like poetry
