One day I was taking Sweep for a walk
While a friend and I were having a talk,
I let him off his lead to have a run
To play with my friends` dog and have some fun.
Sweep spotted a cat right in the bushes
`I`ll have that` he thinks and off he rushes,
`Sweep, Sweep, come here` I began to shout
But my commands he did nothing but flout.
He`s just like the kids they`re a deaf lot
Selective hearing is what they`ve got,
I took to my heels and off I did run
Now the chase really had begun.
The grass was long I found to my dismay
`Cause hidden beneath a tree branch did lay,
The tree branch ended this almighty chase
`Cause next minute I was flat on my face.
That wasn`t the worst I can honestly say
`Twas the fact that in a bed of nettles I lay,
There wasn`t a place on my hands that weren`t stung
And Sweep`s neck I could have willingly wrung.
My pride was hurt but my hands hurt even more
I now quickly had to look for a cure,
The dock leaves I found and rubbed them on fast
But the cure wasn`t instant, the pain it did last.
I went home like the Hulk with two green hands
And vowed Sweep would in future obey my commands,
But it`s hard to teach an old dog new tricks
So I`ll just have to put up with his antics.
