 the gypsy poet

the snake has gone

Their pulling down the snake
taking it apart brick by brick
they're counting all the memories
i heard from billy quick

they've drank there at the Albion
for many years afire
there were Stanley's in the forecourt then
rogers in the hall

they are selling off the Methodist
the Westley on ringwood road
their selling off the boozer mate
got to see the monkeys load

the stories that were told there
in newtown to the kids
there were gypsies in the caravans
lorries at uncle sids

the place will never be the same
the co ops gone long ago
they've sold off their memories to the bankers
come see the sad sad show

the road has lost its vision
where nob by took fag ends
where knotty sold his caravans
they will never have a snake again
