 Historic Night

This was an historic night crowned by the event at Grant Park,
As a hundred thousand of Obama supporters cheered.
A new day has come to America, a new direction we will embark;
This is the day that the Conservative  Right has always feared.

The first African-American President of these United States
Has been elected resoundingly by America, we stood strong.
Our nation has been left by his predecessor in desperate straits,
Mr. Obama spoke passionately of unity before this cheering throng.

Not reaching in the bag of political phrases to cast blame on another,
He spoke of bipartisan leadership walking into a new tomorrow.
He embraced the opposition party to welcome them as his brother,
Speaking the words of Abraham Lincoln, that inspiration he did borrow.

When Senator Mc Cain's name was spoken, he was praised as a hero,
The masses at Grant Park warmly received Mr.  Obama's assessment.
Negative reactions to the Senator from Arizona was absolutely zero,
A new vision I saw in Grant Park last night, America as an investment.

Tears streamed down the faces of this crowd as Mr. Obama spoke,
Words of kindness, of faith, of challenge, of unity, of hope, of humility.
His words touched the heart and had a way of encompassing all folk,
He made me believe that as American's, we do have the ability.

Yes we can!
