 Listen to the Silence

I sit in meditation today in the quiet of the afternoon,
Sitting before my  dog Quest, still, just breathing rhythmically.
I attempt to drop my thought center down out of my mind,
Opening up, I sit feeling, smelling, tasting, seeing, hearing.
I can only hold this focus for a short while before I loose it,
My attention scurries back into my mind for the security there.
I notice the gentle waves of peace when inhabiting my fullness,
When I am able to drop into myself, I sit and listen to the silence.

They call this practice because my mind must be trained to accept,
To allow my attention to escape into the fullness of the universe.
To reach outside of my mind, to seek out that calm center in my soul;
But fear holds me in it's grasp, my attention will not obey my desire.
My ego controls my attention with its scripts and internal conversation,
It's fantasies, dreams, aspirations, not trusting another way to my goals.
My soul is the connection to the universal gentleness and peace,
When I am able to drop into myself, I sit and listen to the silence.
