 Way of the Ancients
Yogi's of our history have explored the ways of the mind,
Learning to come into unity with the fullness of their existence.
In power moving into the Samdhi
In the fullness of awareness becoming one with all.
The eight limbed path of Ashtanga guided these ones of our past
In the way of the ancients.
These guides touch us today as they reached out from the unknown.
As Pantanjali wrote their codified findings in the Yoga Sutras,
The most significant signpost written about the inward journey.
Seeking to come into Moksa, the liberation of the soul,
The wisdom of the Sutras guide us today if we are truly seekers
In the way of the ancients.
The yamas and the niyamas are our cornerstones,
As moral restraint and observances contain us while we seek.
The asanas assist unify our body, mind, and soul
With the final brick in the foundation being pranayama,
The practice of controlling of our breath,
In the way of the ancients.
The mastery of these four limbs brings stability to our practice,
As our lives are controlled by the ethics of yoga.
With this firm foundation we can begin to build
The mighty temple into the seat of the soul.
Now we turn inward on a path of contemplation as we walk
In the way of the ancients.
The Pratyahara is the first step of the path as we begin turning inward,
Next Dharana is formed of focused concentration,
As we build into the Dhyana of meditation,
Until the grand moment of Samadhi is discovered.
The union with myself and that of the object of my meditation,
We are now fully walking in the way of the ancients.
