 Angela is in the Circle

As a tall lanky young girl in Little League,
She could flat out pitch a softball.
I watched her grow with dedication and hard work,
As she developed into the best around our area.
High school and AAU ball dominated her teens.
Traveling and throwing her riser, change, and drop;
State championships came her way at James River.
Our area knows she's special when Angela is in the circle.

Not highly recruited, Virginia Tech received a prize,
As the Hokie girls became a dominate force in the ACC.
Looming to make their move into the national scene this season,
Now a senior with records being surpassed every game.
In international ball she continued to wow the opponents.
The Olympic Trials were held and she made it to the last cut;
Released on the last day, Beijing no longer in her sites.
But the state knows she's special when Angela is in the circle.

The Hokies played Team USA in an exhibition in March.
Angela had the opportunity to prove she belonged.
The greatest upset of the powerful Olympians happened that day;
Not only defeating them, but she no-hit them as well.
Not a ball out of the infield, ten Olympians struck out;
Just a second inning walk was all Team USA could muster.
The mighty had fallen, her pitches left them off balanced.
The nation now knows she's special when Angela is in the circle.

Today I remember that little girl throwing hundreds of balls each day.
The precision of her mechanics developed under her Dad's watchful eye.
I saw the hard work combined with talent ; now I see where it can take you.
Always an very special inspiration when Angela is in the circle.
