Almost Forgotten In TimeThree half fallen walls left of rock and mud Almost covered by old smothering wild fig tree~ And it had grown right through this old bush hut Where once stood a fire place and stone chimney~ Proof still about of this once magnificent spot That it was simply enjoyed by family of a few~ Four days from travel just about anywhere at all Way up the top of Australia inland from ocean blue~ There had been an old outside bath of stone Another tree grew near there so much the same~ Seemed a wild cherry tree of some oldest kind That's seed found good soil helped by the rain~ A deepest old water well stood quite near It's top fashioned from rock and mud as well~ The track I drove upon stopped 3 miles away Overgrown scrub almost hid the hut as if never to tell~ Who was it that lived so far away in this old hut Must have been at least one hundred years ago~ How they survived away out here so far back in time And where they came from to here I guess we'll never know~ The remains of fence posts grey and leaning now An oldest gate how it hung there badly~ But visions of happier times lay all about Though all these years have passed now sadly~ No more the obvious days of reasonable splendor Its once day of usefulness have long gone and its need~ The owners of this place would all be gone long ago Standing now in testament overgrown by scrub and weed~ Oldest signs of a path to a once shed still to be seen So many oldest tools and signs of life to still see~ Even make shift toys near an old home made tree seat Now all a part of a long ago still secret history~ Terrence Michael Sutton copyright 1973 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
