 Praises for the Morning

The soft darkness just before the first glint of dawn,
Promises of a newness of a moment not yet lived.
I look to the east and wait for the sun's warmth,
I see the orange hues around the distant mountains.
The dark shadows lighten with mornings fresh pallet,
Colors so subtle that they beg for observation.
The beauty of this moment becomes frozen in a memory,
I look to God with praises for the morning.

The sun breaks over the eastward horizon, I pause;
My fullness drinks in the splendor of the sensations.
My eyes see the colors, my skin feels the warmth,
My ears hear the bird's songs, my nose smells the morning dew,
My tongue tastes the breezes flavor, my heart opens with love.
It is a new morning,  this moment is without comparison.
I marvel at the way this new day absorbs my total person.
I look to God with praises for the morning.

Inspired by the drive home from work after 11/7 one cold crisp
morning at sunrise.
