Not one white Face

        Not One White Face

The other night a 5 year old boy was shot
His only fault was living next to the dope spot
As the finger points and tongues place blame
Not one white face was affiliated with the gangs
And just last month at a big rap concert
Three people were killed and many more were hurt
Many a witness came forth to tell what they saw
Not one white face was present, not one at all
When going to bed in the projects, lock your doors
Lock your windows, close your curtains, and sleep on the floor
Not for the lack of a comfortable bed
But for the fear of stray bullets flying overhead
And when you hear the guns pop and the cars race
If you look out the window you won't see one white face
A drive by shooting in the ghetto
Not one white face
          Drug dealers in the ghetto
Not one white face
          Teenage pregnancy in the ghetto
Not one white face
Somehow I think we've been blaming the wrong race
A kid killed in the ghetto for a pair of shoes
Not one white face
A mother buying crack with money meant for food
Not one white face
Another car jacking, another dies for some rims
Not one white face
A couple out to see a movie dead before they get in
Not one white face
Somehow I just know we're blaming the wrong race
No longer shackled feet and hands, but shackled minds
Using the freedom to use any excuse we can find
After all the true suffering of the ones who lived before us
And all the voices that sang of freedom like a mighty chorus
Instead of standing on their shoulders to reach for a sky of endless wonder
We stand on their shoulders to keep each other under
We changed our music and gave it a negative spin
No longer reflecting on our culture and the beauty therein
We disrespect our sisters, kill our brothers
We take for granted our fathers, and abandon our mothers
There was a time when white held us back
But the only hands holding us now are black
Not one white face, not one white hand
It is now a black face, it is now a Black Hand
