Praises or Criticisms
I am seeking to lift myself out of this endless cycle of dependence.
I scurry after the accolades and shrink away from the honest assessments.
My life has been built to protect this frail and fragile ego,
I try and balance on this tightrope I have been walking.
As the net is being pulled away by my higher self, it's time to grow up;
It's time to see life unaffected by praise or criticism.
The world wants me to dance to the tune that it imposes on me.
The power of opinion dominates so many and smothers the rest.
They are left an uncaring mass of self-centered flesh just craving;
No longer caring what others think, but also just no longer caring.
I hear music of a different tune rather than this Dance of Destruction.
It's time to dance to life unaffected by praise or criticism.
How can I not care what others think while still caring about others?
This is so tricky that few have found the way to walk this path.
It's not that hard to say ‘screw this world and what it thinks',
But in this attitude you tear down the fabric that holds society together.
So I am left just people pleasing, disarming the power in my life.
It's time to value a life unaffected by praise or criticism.
How is it possible to walk this fine line while still walking in love?
I must believe that the ego is responsible for these three paths;
The leaning into, the recoil away from , or the death to caring about.
I must learn that in order to be victorious in this war, I must trust.
In this trust emerges my soul that is strong enough to walk in this light.
It's time to live a full life unaffected by praise or criticism.
It is only the soul that is untouched by those external judgments,
While still being able to care about the life of these judges.
The ego must release its magical spell on the reigns of my life.
Praises or criticisms have no place in the seat of the soul.
Freedom is near to me if I seek this straight road;
It's time for life to be independent of praises or criticisms.
