“To quote another's word so one doesn't have to take responsibility of the sting, is cowardice in camouflage of the great ones who weren't afraid to be brazen, for good or ill.”– Manea
Don't we believe here in the land of the free that we all have the right to be a$$holes, jerks, ignorant and bigoted?
It's a fine line isn't it?
But we know it when
Fist and face
Momentarily
Meet,
We are then painfully
Aware,
At least one of is,
When the line
Is crossed.
We are free to hate
In the land of the free
Free to be false in public
And sow seeds of hate
At home
In our children's ear.
Yet we teach
In our hallowed halls
That the brutality of words
Is far more damaging
Than flesh and bone
Which will heal
Far more quickly
Than the soul
So brutalized.
It's a fine line isn't it?
To think such damaging thoughts
And our right to subject others
To our inner cruelties,
For many who wield
Such cutting blades
Are unaware
Their audience
Is bleeding to death…
They are confused
Why their flowers
Go unaccepted.
