The Question
The Question
I still remember back
so many years ago
when my child came to me
with Santa's List in tow
Looking at me
with those all trusting eyes
Asking 'Is Santa real'
with a very heavy sigh
My heart froze like ice
I was not ready for this test
but an answer I must give
and give it my very best
I took her by the hand
and led her to our tree
offered her a place
upon my shaking knee
I said a silent prayer
asking for God to help me out
to find the words to explain
what Santa is about
As she began to speak
a tear filled her eye
'The kids at school tell me
Santa is a lie.'
'They say he is not real
It's just you and Dad'
'I know you would not lie to me ...
They really made me mad'
So I sit here searching
for the words within my heart
not knowing what to say
not knowing where to start
I asked 'what is it my precious child
that you really do believe'
before I could give my answer
I needed to know what she perceived
As the tear that had been waiting
rolled down her little face
She said 'I want to believe'
and I took her in embrace
Then my words began to flow,
'My precious little one
Santa is the spirit of Christmas
that will never be undone'
It is the birth of our
Precious Jesus Savior
that we celebrate
with joyful behavior
'Santa lives with in your heart
as with every little child.'
'He is what you wish him to be'
then upon her face I see a smile.
She hops down from my knee
'Thanks Mommy... I still believe'
I sit here with eyes closed and pray
'Thank you God for helping me.'

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
