Poetry For Everyday People

A New Day

I've left pieces of me
behind, as you have,
I've picked some up too,
as you have, we move on,

wounded or victorious or
betrayed or simply forgotten,
and perhaps forgotten is
the toughest one, alone
in an apartment, in a
strange city, within ourselves,
watching friends
drinking beers,
living lives,
laughing, talking,
as we carry
our wine home, our
candles, our memories,

the early wounds are
hard to recover from, unaware,
we got had, innocence torn,
trust manipulated,
peaceful imagery replaced
with raw realities,

and some of the pieces
I just didn't want anymore,
as you, I just wanted to move on,
get strong, smart, guarded,

find a way, a place,
forgiveness,
a new beginning,
a chance.
