Stay Sober

Stay Sober
Two months in recovery and about a hundred questions
Reaching out to anyone who could give some suggestions
I'm in a program now; I've put in a little time
So how do I reclaim the life once mine?
One person told me the first thing was to stay sober
And another said the second thing to do was stay sober
And again another said the third thing was to stay sober
But the last thing I thought about was how to stay sober
I've done my seven days in Detox, which was really scary
I made it safely though my thirty days in primary
Things are going all right so far on my support phase
Half way through with about thirty more days
I'm starting to treat life with a little more respect
But there are so many things that I have conquered yet
When I try to plan and think things over
I hear those same two words in my head, stay sober
But my parents don't trust me, stay sober
The love of my life wants to leave me, stay sober
My children won't speak to me, stay sober
No matter what my issue all I hear is, stay sober
They say I will love again if I just stay sober
My family will let me back in if I just stay sober
They say there isn't any doubt that if I stay sober
Everything will work out if I first stay sober
Not by fear, nor by force, all I hear is stay the course
Not in a day, nor over night, walk by faith by sight
Not for all of them to see, but this must be done for me
Step by step, and day by day
Same old me doing things a different way
Every good thing from this day forward
Will come to me if I stay sober
