David

You always were the wild and reckless one;
I just went along for the ride.
We always had a load of fun,
And would in each other confide.

I remember your heart, your loyalty,
And your courage against all odds.
I remember your rapier joviality,
As you cursed and damned the gods.

You were my soul's brother and impetuous friend;
My strong right hand of fellowship,
On whom I could always depend.
Were I sliding into hell, yours was the hand I'd grip.

Sketching was your gift,
As writing verse was mine.
Each had a portion of the other's gift,
Though not so deep or fine.

I tried in vain to save you,
From the disease that gripped you so.
But how, my friend, could I free you,
If you never would let go?

Now you are gone before me,
As was your wont to do,
Chortling in your glee,
Ah my dearest friend, did you have no clue?

So very many things you could have done;
Oh David, why do this?
If only I could turn and run
To save you from Death's kiss.

In Memorium---------David W. Kimmel.   Tears cannot
bring you back...yet still I weep
