 A King

Without recognizing the authority,
Refusing to submit my self rule.
Christ stands waiting at the door,
Choose this day who you will serve.

I don't wish to be some dancing poodle,
Some parlor game object of ridicule.
Without the fortitude to open the door,
He waits for my ego to submit to a King.

My desire is just to be left alone by Him,
But He stands patiently, lovingly; waiting.
Authority in my life I resist to give up,
Continuing this struggle within my soul.

Self is a strong entity that wishes to rule,
“Die to self!” He must think I'm some fool.
Yet His love beckons me to lay down my life,
Placing all authority into His perfect hands.

Die to self is all that I must do to receive,
The fullness of this gift that Jesus gives to me.
I look at the edifice that I have built on my own;
The construction I have built is poorly engineered.

A King  is needed to fill this void in my life.
A King is needed to protect me from myself.
A King is needed to redeem me from my sin.
A King is at the door, I simply have to let Him in.
