ADVENTUROUS SWEEP

 ADVENTUROUS SWEEP

There is a place in the Tawd Park
Where the kids like to go and have a lark,
The kids call it the camel humps
`Cause the ground is up and down in lumps.

Now I took Sweep for a walk one day
And I let him off his lead to have a play,
I threw the ball it was his favourite toy
And he was fetching it like a good boy.

Now it didn`t last long I can tell you that
`Cause in the bushes he saw a rabbit sat,
Now the rabbit got scared and it took flight
Sweep ensued and went right out of sight.

I crawled through the bushes on all fours
Using my hands and knees as I had no paws,
So many paths, I didn`t know which to take
But I had to be quick and a decision make.

I tried them all but fruitless was each one
No sign of Sweep or the rabbit, they were gone,
I ran this way and that I must have looked mad
But this dog of mine is certainly bad.

I kept shouting him but to no avail
It was enough to make me want to wail,
I then found myself on the ground that has lumps
Yes, you`ve guess it, I was on the camel humps.

Now these are not meant for feet or the like
Kids go up and down these on their BMX bike,
Now the hills are steep and the slopes are worse
While going up and down these, Sweep I did curse.

Just to enhance my adventure on the hills
There`s a big drop and a river to add to the thrills,
But I didn`t want to end up in the river down there
So I had to be careful and I took great care.

All this was doing was tiring me out
So I tried once again and gave him a shout,
Silence reigned (no bark) as it did before
So I had to carry on and explore some more.

I was going in circles of this I was sure
And I knew for certain I couldn`t take much more,
With one last effort I looked all around
Then I saw him lying flat on the ground.

~      ~      ~

He lay exhausted under a bush
I knew the feeling so I didn`t rush,
His chase with the rabbit he didn`t win
We both looked like something the cat had dragged in.
