The company was located at the end of a city park;
A walkway with bicycle and a running path.
It circled a mile and a half and came back.
I was keeping in shape for basketball season.
Usually I would be running alone, on occasion
a couple walking a dog, or couple with stroller,
It was early spring first day of March.
I noticed many other runners on the track;
"Rocky" me, went into second gear passing everyone.
One pretty lady up front stayed thirty yards ahead.
No matter what I did I could not gain on her.
The next day things were hurting but I had to run,
The same wimps were coming as if I was standing still.
She smiled and waved a greeting as she blew past,
Then the pack of men caught up one striding beside me,
"Trust me, you won't catch her. She is the American
Champion marathon runner. We are training for the Olympics
Yesterday we were on a jogging day to work out the kinks.
Today we run up the steps on the bridge and up the hill.
We come back, do it again don't try to catch her no one can."
Then without even breathing hard he raced off to catch
his friends. I stopped to massage my calves in mortal pain!
