 Obama's First Day

President Obama has been sworn in to office,
And the earth has continued to spin on it's axis.
A black man dwelling in the White House,
Leader of the free world, finger on the button.
In the Old South, stereotypes still linger.
Fear and mistrust are strong, masked with words like;
‘I am not a racist, I just don't like his politics.'
Well, America, we have survived day one in tact,
The foundations of our forefathers still stand.
With  new hope, our President moves us into the future;
But the difficulties will be great, the detractors waiting.
President Obama's first day in office has now passed;
Trust in the political system that has made America great.
Let freedom ring in the halls of the White House tonight.
Where once, only as a servant would he be welcome.
Let freedom ring beside the grave of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Where once, he had a dream. Dr. King had a dream.
