Buddy Holly Lives, OK!!

The day the music died 3rd February 1959
Buddy Holly. Ritchie Valens, J P " The Big Bopper" Richardson

Is it more than 50 years ago.
Can all that time have passed?
I can still remember the anticipation
until the day came round at last.

I remember I didn't work much,
every minute seeming so long,
and all the day in my mind
the latest Cricket's song;
And then school at last ended
and I met Allan just after five
and finally finally the curtain rose
and on stage Buddy Holly live.
We barely heard a note,
just long loud screams,
but we could listen to his records.
This was the stuff of dreams.
Just to be there with him.
Just to see his verve and skill,
feel that music throbbing,
such a long awaited thrill
over far too soon,
like his own short life,
for very soon after
that airplane took his life
leaving questions unanswered
things never to be known.
I believe he would have lasted,
I think he would have grown;
Would have survived,
passed the maturity test
lived with them all
still one of the best.
I can still close my eyes,
can still recall the sight
of Buddy Holly live in concert
that very special night.

They still play his music
So just a part of him survived
Untarnished memories to spite
That day the music died
