Quality of Character

The seascape changes on a daily basis;
The sandcastle built today is gone at high tide.
Fleeting is any thought of permanence,
As destruction of any construction is sure.
The only thing that will remain after the breakers
Wash and renew the beach each day
Is the quality written within the heart of the sands.
Outward evidence is washed away by relentlessness of change.
All constructions within our lives are destroyed some day.
The Taj Mahal will crumble, the Eiffel Tower will fall;
Yet always standing will be the underlying character.
Those dreams and desires inspired by our love of life.
Untold scores of humans in the pursuit of honor
Bought into the lie and sold their soul.
The memories of each and every human on this earth
Are remembered for their quality of character.
The quality of our character will remain for eternity,
Standing against the winds of change.
Remaining firm as the billows of destruction climb into the sky.
Nothing else truly matters in this life.
