 Flame of Life

by Fred Pifer.

Gently flickering for too short of a span of time;
Blown out, a whisp of smoke goes up to the heavens.
Death visits each and every one of us at some moment;
Yet we know not when our flame will be extinguished.

At one time we never believed that this flame could die off;
Never thinking about went we must leave this vessel of clay.
Somewhere deep inside we know that death will visit some day;
Yet never believing that that day will ever come to pass.

Precious is this delicate flicker dancing across our days;
Enjoy and cherish each moment that we have as a gift.
Realization of our finite nature brings as sense of blessing;
Each second is a gift from the Almighty Creator to me.

The flame of life may not continue, even for another minute;
Thankful I shall be for every grain of sand in the hourglass of my life.
At any moment my times could end, the flame blown out;
So precious is this moment laden with the fullness of life.
