 Bel Canto

From the fires of the skyway, streaking down to earth
Came the lady of wonder from some alien, exotic birth
And she sang 'til the songs transported one and all
To a place inside themselves, where songs seldom call..

Soaring among the high notes, quivering and frail
Swooping down to the lowest on her celestial scale
Ending each to perfection, not too late or too soon
With tiny tinkling sounds from dark side of the moon..

Lovely lady, with the lilting clarion call from God
Taking your voice where no one has ever dared trod
How do you sing each song then make the melody disperse
Floating on drifting stars out across the universe?....

Borne upon a comet's hair, born on a world unknown
Breathing the rarefied air from your jewel spangled throne
Each jewel sending forth a sound melodious and warm
Sprinkled with spattered notes from the inside of a storm....

Graced by Heaven's hand, your throaty sounds enthrall
Reverberating ecstatically off Heaven's starlight wall
Captivating, resplendent songs of gladness or sorrow
Hauntingly mesmeric from the far side of tomorrow....

All around the world you go, performing for queen or king
And everywhere you are, there is a presence that you bring
Voice silky and smooth, a glissade along the Milky Way
Calling forth all that's good from bright fields of yesterday....
