 Am I Real?
The Velveteen Rabbit is a children's story
That focuses in on the meaning of life.
Reality is not what some folks perception of it is,
As they live their lives already dead.
Trapped within the confines of their head,
Not escaping down into their bodies below.
Imprisoned by their own fears and emotions,
As the rabbit asks the horse “Am I real?”
I begin to expand out to live within my body
By accepting the present moment as it is.
If I'm a stuffed Velveteen rabbit or a toy horse,
This does not restrict the meaning my life has.
I accept my circumstances and become fully present;
Beauty and an animated life is created for my dwelling.
Love reaches out to me and touches my heart,
I will no longer have to ask, “Am I real?”
I will attempt to be at peace with my life as best as I can,
Dwell deeply with my body, escaping the mind's prison;
For the mind is the judge, the jury, and the executioner.
Not allowing me to live my life, but creating an illusion,
For reality only happens when you step outside this prison;
As I live with presence, I enter into that special inner peace.
Not in the past, or some future projection; not within a fantasy;
If I am present, I will always be able to honestly say, “I am real!”
