 Tomorrow

I sit here in my chair wondering what the future will bring;
I see layoffs, plant closings,  downsizing, and restructuring.
Surviving by government bailouts, some banks are still aloof;
Insisting on privacy and trust, they take our money and run.
I look to the auto makers and see an industry dying a slow death,
Loans by the government only delay their inevitable failure.
People are making less and less as inflation takes a bigger bite,
Yet we are the consumers that are needed to turn this recession.

Mr. Obama has stepped across the threshold of the White House,
Becoming the visionary of a new hope for American dreams.
Or is he the shadow of death, foretelling us of our own demise.
I look at the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, and Korea;
I see the African nations torn by poverty and revolutions.
I see the bird of peace, the dove,  cooked on the spit of this life.
The vulture becomes more the bird of reality, scavenging what is left.

The morsels of hope, hidden deep in a secure hiding place;
Waiting for the opportunity to spring forth with a fresh wind.
I see this wind blowing, but few reach out to grab on today;
Maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow hope will grow eternal.
