 Quiet Man

I try to live my life in peace and without struggle,
As the striving for worldly glory doesn't interest me.
The world passes me by on its way to riches;
I smile and wave to these folks who rush to their treasure.
I plod along with the intent of living fully in union with life,
As I don't make war with time, or try to capture the moment.
My glory comes in a form that others may not recognize;
I'm a quiet man.

This road of life takes us to many destinations,
As we become oblivious to the textures along the path.
I search the shoulders of the road for a nugget of truth,
As the masses continue along to their reward.
‘Are we there yet?' is all they want to know,
But I allow the clock to become an irrelevant item.
This sojourn of mine is without the limits of time;
I'm a quiet man.

The clamor to wealth is too noisy for me,
As the riches of peace sustain my soul.
This road that is well traveled is becoming a millstone,
Weighing me down with limits to the person that I can be.
I seek out the peace of the birds, the quiet of the forest;
As I have been pushed along this road to a place that I have no interest.
I desire to return to the quiet, to seek the wonder of the stillness;
I am a quiet man.

I am at a crossroads in my life, now as I see the future ahead.
Do I continue to shuffle along this road, or do I follow my heart?
As I pull off the road of this world and begin to wander through the woods;
Not following another's pathway with their destination or goal.
Just life within this moment, and the peace that this brings;
I become lost deep within the boughs of this earth's forests.
Finally my destiny is being fulfilled in the pathless greenery;
I am a quiet man.
