H.R.T.!! Ladies, it's long, but VERY, VERY important!!I can not stress that enough! Please take the time to read this! This is NOT about; ‘oh woe is me, look what I've got!' This is a strong message to all females'Out there! Daughters, sisters, wives…nieces! (Hormone Replacement Therapy)! Ladies, I beg you, please… DON'T END UP LIKE ME! The legacy they left me with is great! I wrote this a few years ago when a scare hit the news! And it terrified the women in the UK using HRT! They also took women off it against their wishes!! Those who weren't - stopped it anyway through fear!! This is my reaction to that time! I still drive this home! If you value your life, If you really do care...! Then take stock of me... As you walk past my chair!!!!! Don't End Up Like Me! I walk the walk… I wear the shoes, And trust me true! I almost lost my life!!! 3 times!!! Because I ‘WASN'T' on H.R.T.!!!!! *************************** It's all over the news just lately… And splashed all over the TV.! Panic stations, the fear factor! Crisis attack on H.R.T.!! They're scaring the women like crazy, Telling them H.R.T.'s harmful and BAD!!!! Well to that I will say this… I think that's pretty sad!!! You see, they tell the negative side, Wow, but ‘bad news' is always ‘bigger' news… Panic attack! Watch your back!! Cos they let you think your life you'll lose! Now then that's where I come in!! For I have ‘NO' ovaries or H.R.T.!! I slipped through the net, it's one of those things, But I think you may want to listen to me! I am the flip side of the coin!!! For 'I have' the risks 'without' H.R.T.!! Women were scared of the breast cancer's scare! Without it, 'risks' are a certainty, but it's too late for me! Prevention is better than cure they say, And yes, that's certainly very true… There is prevention, but ‘NO' cure…!! Don't let my future be the future for you! Had my body had ovaries or H.R.T.! Then I wouldn't be in this mess today, For the body suffers, oh, so bad… And price was dear for me to pay. You don't just get osteoporosis girls, But other things beyond imagination…!! I walk that walk…I nearly died that year! And the result is a bit like 'hell and damnation!' I won't go into that…I can't! It's a scary place for me you see! So my advice today is see your doctor, If you need it, get back on H.R.T.! Sometimes things happen in life... But if you value that life today! Hark my words, heed my words... Please, lease listen to what I say! Ok!! I wasn't going to spell it out! It's very personal, but I am! At the end of this poem, you will see why!! I'm not saying there's no risks with it! But please take a hint from me… Don't end up the way I am… By not using H.R.T.!! I'm on it now, and I can never come off, I don't want to die, cos I value 'my' life…!!! For me there is no choice to make… I stay on it and continue with my strife! All these people who scaremonger! Telling women to be afraid by using their voice, Telling the down side, always the downside!!! And in a way…taking away women's free choice! We look to the experts and take their advice, Then the scare hits and women go sick! Panic stations, fear! What do they do? They get off H.R.T. pretty damned quick! I have to admit there's a possible risk of breast cancer, But it doesn't mean you'll get it, take that from me! For if I was given the details and the choice, I would have been straight on H.R.T! But sadly for me that's not so, I wasn't on it… And that's why I'm telling my tale…! For without ovaries and H.R.T.!! Your body will most certainly ail! I was watching the news on T.V.!! And the worries women's' face, Well ladies, if you have no hormones… Take note! Mine is certainly the future you face! It's hard and it so very painful! Even with the medications I'm on, I bear this agony daily! So ladies if you're supposed to be on H.R.T.! Get back on it, or a dear price you'll pay… So ok, what I didn't want to tell… But it needs saying! Why? Read on! I take a deep breath, and let you see into my world! After a radical hysterectomy- aged 30 yrs old…I had no HRT, My body went straight into the change… By the time I was 35, I used two walking sticks, I have horrendous pain! I sat on my bed one Easter Saturday- And my spine FRACTURED!!! Yep, it's true! I was 37 years old... Things got worse; I've been in a wheelchair for 16 years! In 1993, from May 13th until April 13th (11 months) I had undergone 3 major surgeries! My insides had burst open. Yep, they did, literally! You ladies you will know what a radical hyst means? Or should! Everything went, including tissue. The second big surgery I had, was a worse than the 1st But the 3rd surgery was mega worse again! I had over 5 hours of surgery during that 1 surgery alone!! I had pre-cancer cells, cos I didn't heal with the 1st two surgeries. Inside was thin and frail like a 90 yr old women's' might be! That surgery was the most horrendous of them all! They had to ‘re-bulid' me, inside, (you know where). And outside through the abdomen! 2 major surgeries took place during that 1 surgery. I am bionic :o) But I live with the fear of a repeat and always will. That is something I cant get my head round! As the surgeon rushed me down the corridor to theatre, These were the last words I heard; ‘Catherine, I don't know if we can stop this…' Then continued, ‘and I don't know if I can save you!' Then I lost consciousness. And you know that bright light people talk of close to death? Oh trust me true, its there! The surgen came to me the night of the surgery and said; 'Catherine, this is a DIRECT RESULT if having NO H.R.T.' She was horrified to know I wasn't on H.R.T. I asked her what other wonderful legacies they left me with! This was avoidable, it really was! For me, it's way too late! For you, not not! That's not the only downside of no HRT. I have heart disease, and Prinz Metal Angina, Osteoporosis and Arthritis everywhere, mostly the spine! Scoliosis and curvature of the spine also crush fractures, High blood pressure, high cholesterol, hyper lipodemia! Thyroid disease, and now my liver and kidneys are badly damaged. Why? Because of the 26 tablets I take every day… Without them, I will die! Last April the bones started snapping off my spine! Last year my sciatica was horrendous. I had to have an epidural into the spine to inject cortisone. The last disc has totally prolapsed. They can't fix it. Why? Because the spine is wrecked! I have been in a wheelchair for 14 years… My spine won't hold me up for more than a couple of minutes. More recently, the ribs on my right side have crushed. My pain medications are many and powerful…but- I live in agony every day of my life. EVERY second of every day of my life! Possible breast cancer against this list of conditions…? No contest! I believe if we are going to get cancer with HRT, We would get it anyway! Why? Cos is only REPLACING our lost hormones! H.R. (REPLACEMET.). T. By 50, present day, I am in a mess as you can visualise. Bed-bound every week at some point, from a few days- And up to 5 weeks… My right leg is now badly affected, sciatica like the left… If you don't want my walk! You know what to do!!! No. 13 is not bad luck for me, No. 13 saved my life, twice! 3 times!! 2 on the 13th, one on Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
