Letters to a Young Teacher (3)

Great to hear from you.
This is not the time to be stoic.
I know you think I keep harping
on the purchase of a light bulb and some toilet paper.
A financial crisis keeps me a while from the
curriculum.
Is that all you could get done?
Is that all you're capable of?
You feel guilt and know not why.
Children aren't masterminds;
in fact, they're inclined to cry.
I'm nothing
if I don't tell you you're doing well.
Darling, you've won an award
after every single bell.
Creativity is not spent out of fashion.
Your Los Angeles counterpart knows
what you're teaching.
Don't participate in any mass paranoia.
Your happiness is everyone's euphoria.
I've stressed the taking of an attitude.
Step well, think well, work well, understand well;
I see you excel.
You share the children's difficulties.
A light bulb is truly needed to enrich their minds.
Your perseverance enlightens them all.
When you see a former student twelve years
from now in a store,
what will you think of her well-dressed looks?
"Time has passed and I did my job."
The status quo is as it is.
You did a wonderful job.

Best regards,

Dr. Brinkley
