your picture still hangs on the shelf
the one taken at Scarborough Beach
you were wearing the blue dress
that you always wore
and a white cardigan to shield the sea breeze
the colours mirror the waves
as they roll gently onto the shore
and I can still hear the ocean
in the shell which you gave me
even if I can no longer hear your voice
I'm sorry if some of my memories have faded
but I'll always have this picture in mind
the one of you smiling
with the sun in your eyes
and the beautiful blue summer behind
remember when I said that you looked like a peach
the time you took your glasses off
I always think about this
and it still makes me smile
even if you don't need your glasses no more
and I hope you don't mind
that I never come to visit
I just don't think I'd know what to say
there's so much now that I'd want to tell you
but I can't say these thing to your grave
better to remember you the way you were
because I'll always have that picture in mind
the one of you smiling
with the sun in your eyes
and the beautiful blue summer behind
