 Hi Dad

These last four years seem to have passed so quickly,
Yet, it seems like it has been even longer since I saw you.
I miss your wisdom, I miss your smile, I miss your gentleness;
But I realize that your qualities are alive within my soul.
I am aging gracefully, approaching my last days at the mill;
Soon, the third generation Fred Pifer will have retired.
Dad, I'm sorry that I haven't been able to deal with Carol;
As she has moved deeper in the surreal world she has created.
I'm sorry you didn't get to meet DJ, a great grandson from heaven;
I am missing those days playing golf with you, drinking orange soda.
I cannot even play any longer, the joy is gone when you left;
As it has been two years since the clubs were in my hands.
I am going to visit your grave today after leaving the hospital;
DJ has pneumonia and RSV, such a sick young man today.
I want to hug your neck today and tell you that ‘I love you',
But all I can do is write this poem and remember the good times.
